U.S. Water Toxicity Technology Gets Commercial Partner in China
BEIJING, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ — Assure Controls, Inc., a California company, announced the signing of an exclusive Distribution Agreement with Asia Water Solutions Company, Limited (AWSC). The agreement is part of the commercialization plan for the Hong Kong based company, with the goal to provide products and services to address China's critical water problems.
"We are very pleased with this multi-year arrangement and the opportunity it brings. Our company plans to introduce new strategies and solutions to environmental needs in Asia," stated Kevin Ho, CEO of AWSC. "The technology was identified by us several months ago and is backed by years of US government research and environmental project work, so the conversations with Assure regarding the applications in Asia were a direct fit. We moved forward aggressively to secure the rights to this exciting new technique," noted Ho.
The first product in this strategy is Assure Control's "QwikLite™200 Testing System," an instrument that uses technology invented by the United States Navy research laboratory, utilizing bioluminescent marine phytoplankton as the method of determining toxic levels in water and sediments. The patented technology was licensed to Assure Controls, Inc. in April 2005. The product is on exhibit at the annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Society for Environmental Toxicity and Chemistry (SETAC), September 18-20th held at Peking University.
Bryan Bjorndal, CEO of Assure Controls, Inc. is attending the conference to support a scientific workshop and presentation on the new QwikLite™200 product. "It is an amazing series of events, a technology invented by the US government is adopted first in China to efficiently address their extensive water contamination requirements," stated Bjorndal. The commercialization plan for AWSC includes products and services to accelerate the identification, monitoring, remediation and then purification of China's water supply.
